How to setup Access Point Name (APN) in cellular modules?


What is APN?

Access Point Name (APN) is setting on the mobile devices that identifies the name of the gateway to connect to on the wireless carrier network to get access to the internet.

How is to read the APN in cellular modules?

APN is stored as part of PDP (Packet Data Profile) profiles along with IP type, PDP IP address , data and header compressions. Each PDP profile will have it’s own APN information.

Using the AT Command Tester tool, you can read the APN information from the cellular modules. Connect the module to the AT Command Tester tool, in the ‘Data Call’ tab, press ‘Get PDP Contexts’ button. The PDP profiles in the module are read. Check the APN under each PDP profile.
