iSonea is planning to integrate its Acoustic Respirotory Monitoring (ARM) device with Qualcomm’s 2net platform, to automatically and securely send asthma symptom data to iSonea’s cloud-based portal. This will give physicans and caregivers instant access to their patient data on a real-time basis. Qualcomm recently launched 2net hub, a medical gateway device that provides 2G and 3G cellular connectivity.
Cinterion 2G module to be used in smart meter product
Linyang Electronics has selected Cinterion’s BGS2 2G GPRS modem for their smart metering product and power utilization management terminals.BGS2 is 2G GPRS modem in a LGA form factor. It supports quad band GPRS and supports a max downlink speed of 85.6 kbps.
Security solution for M2M developers
MerlinCryption, a software company based in Austin, has introduced MerlinM2M, a security encryption solution for M2M developers. This solution prevents cloning and enables end-to-end security for M2M applications. The dynamically changing keys enables different encrypted transmission every time thereby improving M2M security.
Calamp to provide LTE router for smartgrid applications
Calamp has won a contract to supply its Fusion-LTE router to Central Vermont Public Service (CVPS) and Green Mountain Power (GMP) for smart grid applications. Fusion LTE router supports public safety band 14 for private infrastructure and Band 13, 17 and 4 for public use. The router also supports secure IPSec VPN and GPS capabilities. It is likely to use a 4G LTE module in a PCIe form factor.
Spirent’s VR5 enable LTE antenna testing
Spirent Communications has announced that several companies has are now using its VR5 HD Spatial Channel emulator for advanced MIMO beamforming testing. VR5 emulates radio conditions of real-world networks and helps identify issues with antenna design before deployment. Here is the link for Spirent’s VR5. Radio test equipments such as VR5 play key role in LTE product development projects such as 4G LTE modules, where simulated networks are needed for both module and host level testing.
M2M projections by Cisco
Cisco has released Visual Netwroking Indes (VNI) forecast 2011-2016 for M2M. According to that report, M2M traffic will grow 22-times betwween 2011 and 2016. M2M traffic will account for 5% of total mobile data traffic in 2016 and number of M2M modules is expected grow 5.8-fold to 1.9 billion in 2016. Here is the link to Cisco’s M2M forecast.
FAB Express to deploy satellite tracking system
FAB Express will deploy Asset Intelligence’s VeriWise(TM) Dry Van management system on approximately 1,000 cargo trailers. VeriWise solution incoroporates GPS-based location tracking and data communication over the satellite network. Asset Intelligence is a subsidiary of I.D Systems which provides asset tracking solutions.

Future Mobile technology has launched netsurferTOUCH with an embedded 3G module. It has ARM A9 processor,512 MB RAM and 8GB internal storage. The company is positioning netsurferTOUCH as a cheaper alternative to iPad or Samsung Galaxy.

Sylectus has announced the availability of SylectDash, a new web-based dashboard solution for fleet management. Real-time access to information will improve the decision-making process.Other features includes sensitivty analysis report, event forecasting, strategic planning for fleet managers. This solution is designed for managing up to 400 trucks. Sylectus is a business unit of Qualcomm.
Ericsson and Swisscom partner for M2M market
Ericsson and Swisscom are partnering to offer solutions for the M2M market. Swisscom is offering Ericsson’s Device Connection Platform to manage a large number of connected devices. Trials are expected to start by Feb 2012. Ericsson vision is that there will be more than 50 billion connected devices by 2020.
