Qualcomm Life Fund a $100 million venture managed by Qualcomm Ventures is investing in AirStrip Technologies.Airstrip is planning to use Qualcomm’s 2net Platform for a health monitoring product. Qualcomm’s 2net hub is a gateway device that supports connectivity through Bluetooth, Bluetooth Loe Energy, WiFi adn ANT+ protocols. 2net uses 3G module for WWAN connectivity that operates in HSDPA/EDGE/GPRS/GSM network. 2net offers 3.6 Mbps peak download speed and 384 Kbps peak upload speed.Here is the specification for 2net 3G gateway device.

Apple sues Motorola Mobility regarding 3G patents
Apple has sues Motorola Mobility to stop Motorola from asserting patent cliams against Apple in Germany. Motorola is one of the essential patent holder for 3G standards – GSM, GPRS , UMTS etc. Device manufacturers generally cross-license their patents. Motoroal calims that it offered Apple the license to build 3G devices, but Apple didn;t take it.Apple argumet is that the terms of Motorola’s licensing were not fair.
Areas without 3G service through FCC map
FCC has released a map that shows areas within United States that does not have 3G service. Those areas are identified as potentially eligible for Mobility Fund Phase 1 support. The map shows large parts of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Txeas, Arizona lacking 3G service.
4G LTE SIM cards arrive at AT&T stores
PhoneArena.com has published pictures of 4G LTE SIM cards in AT&T stores. Though these SIM cards would be needed for Nokia Lumia 900 phone, there is a speculation that Apple might launch LTE Ipads with AT&T.
Telus launches LTE service
Canadian network operator hs launching LTE network in 14 cities. Teleu’s LTE network will support a peak LTE download speed of up to 75 Mbps with a average LTE download speed of 12 Mbps to 25 Mbps. Telus plans to cover 25 million customers by 2012. Telus had announced that it had awarded teh contract to Huawei to provide LTE radio access network equipment across Canada.
Ericsson leads LTE infrastructure marketshare
According to Signals and Systems Telecom, Ericsson is the leader in the LTE infrastructure market with 24.8% market share. Nokia Siemens Networks and Alcatel-Lucent have 13.1% and 24.4% LTE infrastructure market share respectively.
LTE subscriptions account for of 0.1% of the market currently and will grow to 8% of the market in 2016.
NEC launches LTE smartphone with NTT DoCoMo
Engadget is reporting that NEC is launching LTE smartphone woth NTT DoCoMo. NEC Medias LTE N-04D has 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 4.3-inch 720p LCD screen and a TV tuner. NTT DoCoMo has launched 4G LTE network a while ago.
